What Is A Mothers Help?

Mothers Help and Junior Nannies work in your home providing an extra pair of hands, usually alongside a parent.  They will have some experience with your children’s age group, although it will be more limited than an experienced career nanny.  Because we carefully select nannies for our books, our Mothers Help nannies will have good communication skills and a pro-active attitude.

What is the difference between a nanny and a Mothers Help?

Mothers Help are more experienced than an Au Pair, but do not yet have the extensive childcare experience that career nannies hold.  For this reason, the role is mostly shared care alongside parents, with little to no sole charge care of the children.

A nanny is more experienced and can confidently look after children sole charge.  They will also often have childcare qualifications.  A nanny will also command a higher salary due to their experience.

Job Requirements and Duties

They can work full-time or part-time hours depending on the family’s needs.  They usually live-out, but live-in can also be an option.

Because they are less experienced than a nanny, their responsibilities include a mixture of light housekeeping and errands alongside shared care of the children.  Whereas a nanny will focus a lot more on just the childcare aspect.

  • Nursery or school drop-off/pick up
  • Help with homework for school-age children
  • Engaging in age-appropriate activities and games
  • Providing a loving environment
  • Preparing and cooking healthy meals
  • Keeping toys and play areas clean and tidy
  • Running light errands and helping with grocery shopping
  • Light housekeeping including tidying, hoovering and ironing

What Is A Mothers Help UK Salary?

You can expect to pay from £400-£600 gross per week depending on hours and duties.

If live-in, then the family is expected to provide a bedroom for the nanny and all living expenses including food and bills.
