Nanny costs undoubtedly factor into the decision-making process when considering whether to employ a nanny. It’s a big step to hand your children over to someone else. You need to feel you can trust them and have peace of mind that your children are in the best and most capable hands possible.
How much does employing a nanny cost?
Costs vary depending on location, number of working hours, job role and responsibilities and duration of contract. At Snuggles Childcare, we carefully handpick candidates for our books, which ensures quality is not compromised.
We make sure candidates have:
- solid professional childcare experience
- hold a valid Enhancd DBS police check, or are willing to get one
- hold a valid first aid certificate, or are willing to do a first aid course
- have at least 2 checkable references from recent employment
- a good knowledge of child development
- a pro-active approach and attitude
We interview our candidates using our 6 step vetting process to ensure we only have the best London nannies on our books. Many applications are turned down when we carefully handpick the best nannies around.
Nanny Costs: A Guide to Salaries
Nanny salaries vary depending on the job role, duties involved and hours worked. Salaries are often quoted in net terms rather than gross, meaning that as an employer you will need to pay NI contributions and tax on top of the net salary as well as pension contributions. The final salary figure will depend on the individual nanny’s tax code. The figures below are based on London averages and assume the nanny will have at least 2 years of professional experience.
Full-Time: £600 – £900 net per week / approx £50k – £80k gross per annum
Part-Time: £15 – £20 net per hour / approx £18 – £25 gross per hour
Live In: £400 – £700 net per week / approx £30k – £50k gross per annum
Afterschool: £15 – £20 net per hour / approx £18 – £25 gross per hour
Weekend Nanny: £20 – £30 net per hour / approx £25 – £35 gross per hour
Governess/ Nanny-PA Live-Out: £700 – £1,000 per week / £50k – £80k gross per annum
VIP/HNW Nanny: £20-60 net per hour / £40,000 – £90,000

Babysitter Guide
Our evening babysitters are experienced and dedicated to providing responsible and trusted childcare to families across London. We hand-select babysitters to make sure they are the right fit for each family and have the appropriate experience for your individual needs.
Our babysitters can take care of children in the family home, any London hotel or a rental apartment. Typically they work in the evening from 7pm-11pm+ but these hours are flexible, we just need a minimum of 4 hours booked.
We will always do our best to fill short notice bookings but at peak times (summer month weekends, Christmas period and bank holidays) we can’t guarantee we will have someone from the team available.
